Describe the life before the house
Write down what a normal week would include: walks, visitors, hobbies, work and errands. Decide which things need to be close to home. A sea view is appealing, but the daily route deserves equal attention.
Try more than one home base
Spend time in Jacó, Herradura and the surrounding communities. Use the Tourism Board’s regional overview as orientation, then test actual streets and addresses. A beach name does not tell you what an individual location feels like.
Make a practical trial visit
- Stay near a neighborhood you are considering.
- Run errands at your normal times.
- Revisit your favorite street when the area is busier.
- Ask about care for the home while you are away.
Work with someone who listens
Dominique first arrived in Costa Rica in 2008 and made it her permanent home in 2018. She speaks English, French and Spanish. Tell her how you want your day to feel, your comfortable budget and the compromises you would rather avoid.
Make the brief personal
Imagine choosing between a home close to your usual errands and one with the view you have always wanted. Do not treat either as automatically better. Try both routes, spend some time in each area and note which routines become easier. The useful comparison is how you would live in each home, not which photograph makes the strongest impression.
Write a short message for Dominique: where you would spend most of your time, who may visit, whether you want one-level living and how much care you want to arrange while away. Bring that message back to every viewing. A clear personal brief is easier to act on than a long collection of unrelated listings.
